About the Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pack firm tofu (pressed and cubed)

  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp brown sugar (optional, for balance)

  • Optional substitution: Replace all spices with Trader Joe’s BBQ Coffee & Garlic Rub

  • 1–2 tsp olive oil or butter for pan-frying

Preparation

  • Cut the tofu into 1 cm cubes and gently pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

  • In a bowl, toss the tofu with salt, paprika, cumin powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of brown sugar (or substitute with Trader Joe’s Coffee Spice).

  • Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or olive oil—just enough to lightly coat the bottom.

  • Add the seasoned tofu to the pan in a single layer. Let it cook undisturbed for a few minutes to form a crust, then flip occasionally.

  • Pan-fry for 5–10 minutes, until golden and slightly crispy on the outside.
